New Single from Above & Beyond - 'Another Angel'

Debuted at Group Therapy Weekender 2019, Above & Beyond’s new bi-annual camping festival at The Gorge Amphitheatre outside of Seattle, this angel sounds far from heaven sent.

Another example of Above & Beyond’s recent attraction to tougher, tenebrous sounds this year (consider ‘Waltz’, ‘Distorted Truth’, ’There’s Only You’ and the resurgent tech-trance sounds of Genix on Anjunabeats), ‘Another Angel’ is released worldwide on Friday, November 22.

Warping minds and dancefloors from New York to Prague, accompanied by a titanic visual that’s unnervingly similar to Dr. Who’s most terrifying antagonist, ‘Another Angel’ samples the band’s own 2011 single ‘On My Way To Heaven’ from their acclaimed album ‘Group Therapy’.

The unmistakable and usually strident vocal work of Richard Bedford here sounds almost plaintive and cowed, surrounded on all sides by shuddering, cascading bass. Things culminate in a breathtaking drop that somehow manages to be quintessential Above & Beyond and something totally fresh at the same time.

Above & Beyond Release Their First Original Collaboration Single Since 2010

Above & Beyond and Spencer Brown feat. RBBTS “Long Way From Home”

Stream here / Watch the video here

Above & Beyond’s first original collaboration single since 2010 (for those playing at home, that was ‘Anphonic’ with Kyau & Albert) sees the production powerhouse of Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki link up with prolific San Franciscan, Spencer Brown.

‘Long Way From Home’ featuring the vocals of RBBTS (Anne Kalstrup & Hendrik Burkhard) is a gentle, melancholic wave of undulating melodies, underpinned by the quartet’s rounded, dancefloor-ready sound. Debuted at Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 300 celebrations in Hong Kong, the song considers the experience of loneliness that besets many touring artists. Aptly, the first sketch of the track was laid down by Paavo and Spencer in a Melbourne hotel room - a very, very long way from home.

Says Paavo, “Both Spencer and myself know all too well what it's like being a touring musician.
Filled with totally amazing, high moments, but also lonely moments in hotel rooms far away from home. We'd both been travelling for hours feeling somewhat lost and lonely and ended up spending the day together talking about it all. We found ourselves making a song about it all in a makeshift hotel room studio.”

Spencer Brown has just finished a world tour with Above & Beyond, playing direct support to crowds across North America, Australasia and Europe. A star on the rise, Spencer is already a mainstay on Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats imprint. The prolific 24 year old released his debut artist album, ‘Illusion Of Perfection’, on the label earlier this year.

Says Spencer, “ “Dream on little dreamer." A message that rung in my head after seeing Above & Beyond, as a fan, in 2014. After signing my music with Anjunabeats in 2016, our musical and personal relationship deepened. We’ve toured the world together. Now, we’ve penned this song - drawing deep from our hearts - about the crazy lives we lead.”

Road-tested and fine-tuned in front of sell-out crowds across Europe, ‘Long Way From Home’ feat. RBBTS is an early Christmas treat for Above & Beyond and Spencer Brown fans. Fans need not wait long for more. Both artists have packed schedules for the remainder of the year.

So, the wild ride continues. Thankfully, where there’s good friends and good music, you’re never that far from home.

ABGT300 in Hong Kong & Happiness Amplified

ABGT300 celebrations broadcast worldwide

- Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford ‘Happiness Amplified’ out now -

3 days. 3 shows. 3 locations. Group Therapy 300.
Above & Beyond (Jono, Paavo and Tony) brought Group Therapy to the far east for the first time this weekend to celebrate the 300th episode of their ABGT radio show.

Building on last year’s iconic 250 celebrations at the Gorge Amphitheater, Group Therapy 300 weekend saw fans from over 50 countries descend on the international hub, watched by over 500,000 people online, and millions listening via FM and Satellite radio partners. Group Therapy also aired live for the first time in China in partnership with Netease.

The Friday saw Above & Beyond take to the seas for a 1 hour deep DJ on a traditional junk boat in the middle of Victoria Harbour; set against the dramatic city skyline. The set feature world exclusives from Ben Böhmer, Dosem and Tinlicker.

The Saturday night saw Jono, Paavo and Tony’s broadcast ABGT300 (their 750th radio show in total) live from a sold out Asia-World Expo centre. The marathon 8 hour show saw Ben Böhmer, Spencer Brown, GRUM, Andrew Bayer and ilan Bluestone take to the stage, in addition to an immersive 2 hour headline set from Above & Beyond; transforming the arena into a neon lit street market scene.

Above & Beyond debuted four new original productions, including ‘There’s Only You’ (feat. Zoë Johnston) and ‘Flying By Candlelight’ (feat. Marty Longstaff), taken from their forthcoming ‘Common Ground Companion EP’. Typical of the inclusive spirit of Group Therapy, this year’s Push The Button moment saw members of the China Trance community and Anjunafamily unite on stage to hit play on ‘Sun & Moon’. You can stream Above & Beyond’s headline 2 hour ABGT300 set here

Providing a downtempo, reflective end to the weekend, things moved back to the city for Anjunadeep Open Air: Hong Kong on the Sunday. Taking over the harbourside at Nursery Park, the day began with a meditative moment courtesy of a rare Above & Beyond Yoga set led by Paavo and local instructor Chaukei Ngai. Anjunadeep mainstays Luttrell, James Grant and Jody Wisternoff, Ben Böhmer, Dom Donnelly and Penelope provided the soundtrack at the sunset over Kowloon Bay.

Anjunadeep Open Air: Hong Kong will be broadcast in the coming week on the Anjunadeep Youtube channel and Facebook pages.

Above & Beyond’s new single ‘Happiness Amplified’ with Richard Bedford is out now. Watch the lyric video here.

Above & Beyond releases Rocket Science ahead of ABGT300

Crafting a record that ignites festivals dancefloors worldwide? Well, it's not brain surgery. It is, however, "Rocket Science".
Debuted for 23 000 fans at the Gorge Amphitheater last September, Above & Beyond present their latest, inimitable formulation for dancefloor propulsion. Tweaked and tinkered in the rarefied air of their London studio, Anjunabeats Propulsion Labs predict the track will achieve the optimal angle for atmospheric re-entry on September 7.

'"Rocket Science' will touch down in time for Jono, Tony and Paavo's Group Therapy 300 weekend in Hong Kong. The main event at AsiaWorld-Expo will be broadcast live on Above & Beyond's Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch with mainland China able to enjoy the livestream on Netease. FM Radio stations worldwide will carry the vibe to millions around the world. Get your tickets to ABGT 300 here.

Dance music… it’s not rocket science, unless it is.

Above & Beyond’s Common Ground debuts at #3 on Billboard

Above & Beyond’s new studio album "Common Ground "debuts at Number 3 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.

It’s been a truly memorable week for Above & Beyond (aka Jono, Paavo Siljamäki and Tony McGuinness). Their acclaimed studio album Common Ground was released January 26, just a day before a sold out performance at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York during Grammy week. While in New York City, the band also hosted a screening of their new concert documentary Above & Beyond Acoustic: Giving Up The Day Job, a film which chronicles their 2016 Hollywood Bowl acoustic performance. Now for the icing on the cake, Above & Beyond’s Common Ground has debuted at an astounding No.3 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart, in the company of popular releases from the likes of Migos, Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift, to name a few.
While Common Ground is certainly one of the biggest US chart debuts by a British electronic music act, it’s also a defining moment for independent music - the album was released via Above & Beyond’s own Anjunabeats record label and with the support of its dedicated staff.
However, none of this chart success is a surprise for anyone who’s followed the upward trajectory of the band. Since forming in 2000, Above & Beyond has consistently pushed the envelope to redefine what songwriting and live presentation in dance music is all about. Lead by four studio albums (Tri-State, Group Therapy, We Are All We Need, and Common Ground), two more albums for their acoustic side project (Acoustic and Acoustic II), numerous hit singles and the most loyal fans in all of dance music, Above & Beyond has outgrown nightclubs to sell-out some of the world’s most prestigious venues including The Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Garden, Red Rocks, The Gorge Amphitheater, Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, London’s 02 Arena and Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome.
Of paramount importance to the success of Above & Beyond is the relationship the band has with its fans - fostering a feeling of positivity, unity and spiritual connectedness. In a testament to Above & Beyond’s songwriting skills and their ability to touch the heart, the group’s live shows have often been described as a near religious experience, where fans from of all walks of life come together to experience the catharsis of A&B’s unique brand of ‘Group Therapy.’
As a special treat for fans, Above & Beyond celebrates a full year of its weekly “Group Therapy” (ABGT) radio show with a massive annual live concert which takes place from an iconic location (Alexandra Palace, Madison Square Garden, etc) and is experienced globally via livestream. The most recent event, ABGT250 took place in September 2017 at The Gorge Amphitheater and was for the first time a multi-day event. A hallmark of ABGT shows, a Twitter feed runs above the stage displaying messages from fans tuning in throughout the world - further cementing a feeling of global togetherness, or common ground.
The release of Common Ground coincides with a tour of the same name - A&B’s most ambitious North American tour to date. Presented by T-Mobile, the tour kicked off on December 29th at the Los Angeles Convention Center and the first full leg of the tour commenced in late January with a Grammy week performance at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Future highlights include stops at Chicago’s Navy Pier, Red Rocks Amphitheatre and a Miami Music Week show at The RC Cola Plant in Miami, Florida, with Seven Lions joining as special guest. This is the final stop on the tour and will be one of the most memorable events during dance music’s signature week of the year.
Check out the full list of tour dates below and get your tickets now at aboveandbeyond.nu/commonground
Every ticket sold on the North American Tour (USA dates only) comes with a copy of Common Ground.
