GDE’s Top Ten DJs To See At Nocturnal Wonderland 2019 This Weekend (Part 1)

Tue, 09/10/2019 - 15:01

With Nocturnal Wonderland right around the corner, the time has come to shine a couple of spotlights on the artists you cant go wrong with checking out. Here’s the first of two sets of DJs we think you’ll enjoy at the last rave inside the Glen Helen Amphitheater. Check out their songs below and keep an eye on our IG Story to help us resolve some other conflicts on our schedule. You can also download the Insomniac App to make your schedule now.

Hydrah: Day I Wolves’ Den, 3pm – 4pm

As Insomniac festivals prove every year, the roster of talent at the beginning of the day can be just as captivating (if not more so) as the artists playing the primetime slots. Such is the case with LA’s Hydrah, a techno artist with classical training. Her music reflects her background: driving techno with melodies that bend the rules just enough. “Opening a main-stage for one of Insomniac’s world-renowned festivals is an absolute dream come true,” she tells EDM Identity. “Transitioning from a live act into becoming a DJ has been enjoyable and I cannot wait to showcase some new material as well as music that has inspired me along the way.”

Anakim: Day II, Sunken Garden, 3pm – 4pm

Anakim is the second of two reasons why getting in line at 2:30ish PM will be one of the best choices you made all weekend. The Sound Nightclub resident’s Intergalactic Underground style of Dance Music was cultivated at LA’s Icon Collective Production School. This unique take on dance music involves dark soundscapes mixed with a dark melodic foundation and driving rhythms. All of these elements come together in his most recent Oracle EP, which gained his first round of support on Above & Beyond’s own Group Therapy radio show. His recent Discovery Project win this year is only the beginning of his accomplishments as a producer, but he’s more than ready to brave the journey forward.

Rad Cat: Day I, Parliament Art Car, 4pm – 5pm

San Diego’s Rad Cat has no idea what a genre is, and his music demonstrates he doesn’t need to. Not only does he produce captivating beats like his latest “Alright” featuring Dutch Melrose, but he frequents Soundcloud, reposting artists who embody the kind of sound that gets him going. That repost history alone convinces us that he’s got a sick hour of beats from himself and others ready to roll at 4PM.

Schade: Day I, Sunken Garden, 6pm – 7pm

SoCal’s own Schade rocked a packed Academy Nightclub for Schadefornia, graduating him from a rising star. Nocturnal Wonderland will be the first time he plays with the big boys, and considering his discography we’d say he’s about ready to turn heads. He just released a new EP with house’d out versions of Reggaeton anthems titled ‘House En Espanol’. These three tracks and several more of his releases will have you dancing all weekend long as Schade will doing two sets at Nocturnal, one on Friday for camping pre-party and of course on Saturday at the Sunken Garden.

Mat Zo Drum n Bass Set: Day II, Parliament Art Car, 9:55pm – 11pm

Mat Zo could be the most multifaceted producer out there right now. His beginnings were at Anjunabeats making Trance and Progressive, but these days he’s running his own label Mad Zoo. On that imprint, he creates cutting edge Dance Music with multiple styles and influences, while hosting an array of artists who do the same like Shadient, Kayoh and ALEPH. The producer has spun Drum n Bass for a long time as well, releasing records as MRSA. The end of Nocturnal weekend will see him playing strictly that style and opening for a legend in the genre, LTJ Bukem. This is bound to be one of the coolest ways to close out the weekend.

Duke Dumont & MK Announce Exclusive Events in Three Major U.S. Cities This Fall

Tue, 09/10/2019 - 14:59

Marking a very special live union of two electronic dance music titans, two-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated Platinum-certified U.K. artist, producer, and DJ Duke Dumont and iconic American producer and DJ MK join forces to headline three exclusive special engagements this fall.

The duo is set to grace stages in Brooklyn, NY at Avant Gardner November 9, San Francisco, CA at Midway November 23, and Washington, D.C. at Echostage December 6.

A special artist pre-sale sign-up just went live this morning. Meanwhile, the pre-sale officially commences next Wednesday, September 18 at 10am local time, while general on-sale launches Friday, September 20 at 10am local time.

This trio of exclusive shows brings together a pair of the hottest performers in the world. It stands out as a rare moment for electronic music and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to catch these legends on the same bill together. These shows will undoubtedly sell out.

No word yet if there’s going to be a Los Angeles date but we’re guessing Duke Dumont will be going B2B with MK at All My Friends Music Festival in Downtown Los Angeles this October as a secret surprise guest. Just our guess, though.

REZZ Hints At New Collaboration With Zeds Dead and The EDM World is Ecstatic

Mon, 09/09/2019 - 16:26

It has been a good year for both Rezz and Zeds Dead. They both have been separately releasing a bunch of music. Rezz dropped a new EP and Zeds Dead has been releasing collaborations with artists such as Droeloe and has one with Jauz coming out tomorrow.

They may be (hopefully!) adding another to that list. Rezz and Zeds Dead hinted at a possible collaboration last year, but it has been silent since then. Today, she tweeted out to Zeds Dead a simple emoji of an arrow pointing to an envelope. We hope it means something is waiting in the ZD inbox from her, but we have no idea. We can now only sit in hope and wait.

See the cryptic tweet below:

The Bloody Beetroots and ZHU Drop Dark and Trippy New Single “Zoning” (LISTEN)

Mon, 09/09/2019 - 15:26

Zhu is on a major collaboration bug, as his latest collaboration marks the third dynamic meeting of musical minds this year. Today sees the release of he and The Bloody Beetroots’ “Zoning.” The track has a sexy pace to it, with Zhu’s distinct warped vocals along with some gnarly basslines and leads taking centerstage. “Working with ZHU was a rather mysterious experience that led us to write a song that brought together our different musical influences,” said The Bloody Beetroots. “It was definitely a journey.”

Eric Prydz is Bringing HOLO to New York City this December

Fri, 09/06/2019 - 20:15

Eric Prydz has been a name on everyone’s lips this summer, under his Pryda alias he released an album’s worth of material, his new live shows Holosphere and V O I D, were the talk of Tomorrowland and Creamfields and his Labor Day performance at Brooklyn Mirage was reportedly the biggest of the year.

Prydz continues to push boundaries both in the studio and in the live space and this winter will debut his acclaimed HOLO show in New York at an incredible cavernous location in the Bronx–the 60,000 sq foot New York Expo Center. Presented by DEG Presents, these will be the first and last US performances of HOLO and will feature greater production levels than any previous Prydz U.S. show.

HOLO came to life last year as a series of three concerts in the U.K. before returning to sell out the 15,000 Steel Yard in London this summer in record-time. The unique combination of video, combined with Prydz signature and bespoke light and laser set up, have made HOLO one of the most admired live shows in electronic music.

HOLO is an outgrowth of Prydz’s original EPIC concert series, which have centered around a pioneering use of holograms. The Verge called these shows ‘the ambitious future of concert tech’ this summer, when the sixth installment of EPIC, HOLOSPHERE, debuted at Tomorrowland. HOLO NYC is a very different show than HOLOSPHERE, which centered Prydz inside a transparent LED physical sphere.

HOLO marks the first major large-scale production concert from Prydz in America, since he performed EPIC 4.0 in 2016. As with EPIC and other Prydz concert experiences, like V O I D, the HOLO shows are site-specific and temporal, no two are the same, and no further HOLO dates are planned at this time.

A HOLO NYC pre-sale sign-up will launch immediately today (September 6) for both shows. The pre-sale will take place on Sept 10 at 10am EST, with pre-sale codes sent at 9am Sept 10, and is designed to help fans purchase tickets directly for the show, and prevent scalpers moving tickets into the secondary market.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); = id; js.src = "//"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

Listen to Michael Calfan’s stunning new remix of Hayden James

Fri, 09/06/2019 - 19:21

After selling out New Zealand and Australia, star producer Hayden James snagged another remix of his latest single “Nowhere to Go” from House maestro Michael Calfan. “I’ve loved Hayden’s music since ‘Something About You’,” Calfan says. “I’m super happy to be part of this remix package – ‘Nowhere To Go’ is a tune!’” Using a piano to reimagine the groovy original chords, Calfan converts the energy into a purely euphoric few minutes on the dancefloor. This and the Dom Dolla rework prove the original as a standout as it tells the compelling tale through the lyrics of a relationship so good, it doesn’t even matter that the two lovers in question wander aimlessly.

Hayden James has a big tour of shows in the US this fall, kicking off this weekend in Texas. It then breezes through our neck of the woods next weekend in San Diego, San Francisco and LA. Check out all the dates below and grab a ticket on his official website.

The two have been on and off with releases under this monicker, but considering how consistent they are in the studio, there should be plenty of new treats to come.

Diplo Announces Major Lazer x J Balvin Collab Dropping THIS Month

Wed, 09/04/2019 - 19:09

Last year, we got the upsetting news from Diplo that the next Major Lazer album was going to be their last. We prepared for 2019 to be a year where we said goodbye to the musical trio.

In 2019, Diplo hit us with another announcement, although this one was slight more cryptic: he announced that there was a collaboration on the horizon.

“We got something very big planned for 2019,” he said, after which he tagged J Balvin and Major Lazer. He did not indicate when, so no one knew whether it would be released as a single or on their final album alone.

We got something very big planned for 2019 @jbalvin @majorlazer ????

A post shared by Thomas Wesley (@diplo) on Dec 27, 2018 at 9:05am PST

This came at the end of 2018. Now, as Summer 19′ closes out, and people may or may not have forgotten about this announcement, we got a follow up with a date. Their single, “Que Calor,” is coming out on Wednesday, September 11.

Diplo made the announcement on his Instagram with one extra artist to join the the song that was not there before: El Alfa. For those who may not be familiar with ‘El Jefe’, he is a Dominican dembow recording artist that has dropped countless dance floor bangers across Latin America and most notably was featured on Bad Bunny’s ‘La Romana’. He has worked with such artists as Nicky Jam, Anuel AA, and Cardi B so this collab will be nothing short of amazing.

The song was supposed to be a summer release, but who is being picky when we’re getting a new track to listen to with such awesome artists?

“Que calor” translates to “what heat,” so we can’t wait to hear the fire track they give us. Are you excited for this collaboration?

‘Storm Area 51’ Music & Camping Festival Gets Final OK From Lincoln County

Wed, 09/04/2019 - 15:44

In an unprecedented turn of events, a viral Facebook joke legitimately turned into a full fledged music festival. That’s right: Lincoln County in Nevada has officially approved two events to take place in the spirit of storming area 51. One event, hosted by Harris and Keith Wright in Hiko, will host 5000 people. The second event produced by Connie West, owner of the Little A’le’Inn motel in Rachel, can fit up to double that number on her property for camping. At this moment, she already has 700 reservations. Each festival will announce their lineup very soon.

The county is working to make sure the events provide ample food, water and other accommodations to keep the event organized. “We’ll give people something to do so they don’t run amok,” said George Harris, who plans to repurpose his Alien Research Center gift shop into a music venue off a road dubbed Extraterrestrial Highway. Additionally, law enforcement will make a presence on the site as well. Sadly, anyone who legitimately tries to “storm” area 51 will be arrested.

Could this turn into a yearly tradition? With the right execution on the first go, it’s very possible.

Popeyes Sent Diplo A Private Jet Full Of Its Sold-Out Chicken Sandwiches

Mon, 09/02/2019 - 16:28

Twitter gave birth to the #ChikfilaVSPopeyes movement over the last couple weeks, putting fans of both the new Chicken Sandwich from Popeyes and the classic sandwich from Chik-Fil-A against each other. As you can imagine it got heated to the point where celebrities got involved. Diplo is one such figure, tweeting his sadness about not getting a chicken sandwich before they ran out. Of course, with him being Diplo and this being 2019, the company surprised him with something major at Burning Man by sending out a private jet full of sold out chicken sandwiches. While everyone else had their own priceless memories to share, Diplo ate some of the hottest chicken to hit the internet on the playa. Boss shit if you ask us.

This hilarious trend turned into quite the purple patch for this superproducer, who left it to other fast food chains to beat Popeyes.

Time Warp Festival Returns to New York This November with Stacked Lineup

Thu, 08/29/2019 - 16:47

Celebrating 25 years as one of electronic music’s most recognized and respected curational forces, Time Warp today has announced the lineup for its return to New York City, November 22-23. Five years after its last appearance in America, the brand welcomes some of the biggest names in house and techno to the industrial haunts of the New York Expo Center in The Bronx for two days of total audio and visual immersion.

Time Warp has built itself around a central notion of family, it’s a refrain that is repeated again and again both within the community of artists that have grown central to the event, and the tens of thousands of fans who make the pilgrimage to Mannheim every year.

The New York show will see new and established members of the Time Warp family cross the Atlantic. The enigmatic Ricardo Villalobos, will make his first US showing since Time Warp’s stateside debut five years ago. The Chilean born minimal star has avoided the North American scene throughout the entirety of his career, only touching down to deliver his infamously esoteric sets to eagerly awaiting fans on a handful of occasions. Ricardo is joined by his Time Warp brothers Sven Väth and Richie Hawtin who have been apart of the festival since its 1995 Mannheim debut and have helped to shape the history of the global techno sound.

The lineup continues with cross-over electronic stars Peggy Gou, Nina Kraviz and Amelie Lens, a new generation of techno stars, breaking through cultural and geographical barriers and widening the genre’s cross-over impact. Techno giants Joseph Capriati, Pan-Pot and Maceo Plex continue the weekend’s worldwide reach, further enhanced by house leaning triumphs by Loco Dice, FUSE co-founder Enzo Siragusa, Denis Sulta, and Dekmantel’s most celebrated upstart Palms Trax. The billing is completed with a live performance by recent Carl Cox collaborator Reinier Zonneveld, Afterlife icons Mind Against, the eclectic curation of Sonja Moonear as well as local legends Avision and Mīnk.

Hear Skrillex, Boys Noize and Ty Dolla $ign Team Up for New Single ‘Midnight Hour’

Thu, 08/29/2019 - 15:33

Skrillex and Boys Noize’s newest single with Ty Dolla $ign is officially at your doorstep. The two producers typically team up as Dog Blood and deliver heavy bass influenced Dance Music, but for the project they decided to drop the monicker. That in itself speaks to the unique nature of this track; upon first listen, it’s clear that the vibes of this track differ from a typical Dog Blood track. Ty croons to a soulful chord progression that crescendoes into a sexy four on the floor beat. Though it differs from the usual grit the two producers are used to putting out, one can see their unique stylings in the drums and synthplay throughout the drop. With or without a codename, we wouldn’t mind another banger like this in the future

HEADS UP: If you’re in the Los Angeles area this November, both Skrillex and Boys Noize will be playing together as DOG BLOOD at HARD Day of the Dead 2019 inside the LA State Historic Park on November 2nd. You can Buy Tickets Here before this festival sells out!

Boys Noize has been hitting us with new music and surprise collaborations left and right. To date, we’ve gotten Dog Blood music with Skrillex, ass well as collaborations with Tchami and Lady Gaga. There is also a Skrillex and Ty Dolla $ign – “Midnight Hour” – that was leaked, which happens to be dropping officially TONIGHT.

another bomb is dropping at midnight ???? you ready @Skrillex @tydollasign ? ????????????

Today, his collaboration with A$AP Rocky, produced by Hector Delgado, was released and the Hip-Hop world has been going ape shit over Rocky’s new single since being released from Swedish jail. The song, called “Babushka Boi” is a mix of the rapper’s lyrics and the DJ’s steady beats. The music video takes us for a ride as well, in an almost cartoon comical way.
