Pukkelpop’s Laser-Filled Boiler Room Opening Goes Viral [MUST WATCH]

Mon, 01/13/2020 - 16:46

Pukkelpop 2019 took place in Belgium back in August, but its world record-breaking laser show has just gone viral.

The music festival featuring headliners The National, Post Malone, Tame Impala and many more opened up with quite the spectacle, as captured in the footage below. There were so many lasers going off at once that the video can hardly do the light show any justice — but you’ll get the idea.

“Hit me with those laser beams!” Pukkelpop shared on its official Facebook page prior to the festival. “Our Boiler Room is filled with 320 lasers, that’s a new world record! #PKP19”

The Boiler Room featured many dance music artists including Jauz, Alison Wonderland, Fisher, The Black Madonna, CamelPhat and more.

See below and check out info on Pukkelpop 2020 here.

The Glitch Mob Celebrate 10 Years Of “Drink The Sea” With New Tour

Mon, 01/13/2020 - 15:22

It might be the beginning of a new decade, but in many ways, we’re still looking back to the past. This year marks the ten-year anniversary of The Glitch Mob’s monumental album Drink The Sea that made them household name. In celebration of the milestone, the group is embarking on a new 36-date North American tour.

An innovative, sonic masterpiece from beginning to end, Drink The Sea played a monumental role in molding the LA beat scene, as well as the ears of electronic music aficionados across the globe. Emerging out of a budding, sample-heavy musical landscape, Drink The Sea was a breath of fresh air, pushing boundaries with acute analog precision (and zero samples). Between 2010 and 2020, electronic music fans were likely influenced, in one way or another, by the epic, cinematic cocktail that is ‘Fortune Days’ or the dark, pulsating sounds of ‘Animus Vox’. Drink The Sea was much more than just an album to many; the record garnered a cult following, selling over 100,000 copies, and has since cracked 200,000,000 online streams. To commemorate a decade of earth shattering sound and raw audio manipulation, The Glitch Mob has announced their DRINK THE SEA X tour.

“This year marks the ten-year anniversary of our first album, Drink The Sea. We have been reflecting on how much the album means to us and to our fans throughout this decade-long journey. We are hitting the road with a reimagined live version of the album and brand-new audio-visual experience.”
– The Glitch Mob

Ticket sales will commence on Wednesday, January 15 with an exclusive artist pre-sale, and will go on sale for the general public on Friday, January 17. Fans can purchase their tickets here.

Asteria Music + Arts Festival Announces MASSIVE Changes For Fourth Year

Mon, 01/13/2020 - 14:16

Boutique festivals are a dime a dozen, but few actually make it out of the gates and throw successful second or third years, let alone a fourth. Against all odds, the little festival that could in Florida, Asteria, is coming back for a fourth year in 2020 with a bigger vision than ever.

As it’s been held in April each year, past attendees have noticed the lack of lineup and information on this year’s festival, but organizers had one request: just you wait. Now, Asteria has announced it’s shifting dates from April to August in 2020 and with it some absolutely massive changes. (This will also help avoid booking obstacles due to radius clauses from other events in south Florida earlier in the year.)

First things first — venue change! Due to the festival’s rapid growth and brand new legislation in Polk County preventing large scale outdoor events from occurring, the event is moving from Lake Pierce to Punta Gorda, with more space than ever.

With the venue change comes a return to a more festive camping experience than Asteria had in 2019. With over 800 acres, the festival will shift from the villas offered last year to a more communal camping atmosphere in 2020, though you can still expect VIP and Glamping packages if you want to bougie up your stay just a bit.

The festival will also see an increased variety of amenities, art installations & activities for 2020. New for this year, Asteria has partnered up with Dark Moon Designs (Electric Forest, Shambhala, Elements) to bring a brand new, fully curated experience with an incredible roster of talented artists & installations from around the world, some seeing festival grounds for the very first time!

For VIP guests & those seeking on-site accommodations, Solid Ground Shelters will be on site, who have been providing A+ Glamping Packages for a variety of guests at Electric Forest, Bonnaroo, FireFly & many other events across the nation. Their packages & expertise will make sure everyone has a quick hassle-free VIP festival experience!

AAMF will also feature a variety of stage takeovers from The Dub Rebellion, Electric Hawk, Power House, 40oz Collective, Nightenjin, The Bass Emporium, RHYTHM., & others. In all, the new venue will feature four fully shaded camping areas, three new stages, three soundcamps, dozens of local acts, a swimming hole, glamping (with a VIP Glamping lounge), showers, Car + RV camping, and more.

Asteria Music + Arts Festival 2020 will go down August 7-9 in Punta Gorda, Florida. Find tickets, camping, and more information here.

Carnage Drops Massive Collab with Tyga, Ohgeesy & Takeoff [LISTEN]

Mon, 01/13/2020 - 12:59

Carnage just dropped “Hella Neck,” a brand new, heavy-hitting hip hop cut featuring Tyga, Ohgeesy and Takeoff.

Sometimes less is more and Carnage demonstrates that here with a triumphant yet tasteful beat that backs each rapper’s bars to sheer perfection. Though the DJ/producer is known for in-your-face productions, some of his best work is more leaned back, as we hear in this case.

If this massive collaboration with Tyga, Ohgeesy and Takeoff is any indication, Carnage is on pace to have an insane 2020. Having already worked with some of hip hop’s finest — Gucci Mane, Thirty Rack, G-Eazy, Wiz Khalifa, Young Thug, Meek Mill and the list goes on — we can’t wait to hear what else is in store.

Check out “Hella Neck” below and let us know if you’re feeling it!

Pepsi Changes Up Slogan & Taps Into EDM with New 2020 Ad Campaign

Mon, 01/13/2020 - 12:32

It’s 2020 and times are changing.

Pepsi is switching things up with a brand new tagline to kick off the decade. Moving forward, “The Choice of the New Generation” and “The Joy of Cola,” will no longer be used.

Instead, Pepsi is going with “That’s What I Like.”

In addition, Pepsi is rolling out five national TV commercials in the coming days during NFL Wild Card Games and the 2020 Golden Globes Telecast. We can expect even more during the Super Bowl.

The brand says the new tagline “is derived from and inspired by loyal Pepsi drinkers who proudly like what they like without worrying about what others will think.”

In the past, the brand has featured music from Britney Spears, Pink, Beyoncé, Enrique Iglesias, Queen, and more. As always, the new commercials from Pepsi have a heavy emphasis on music — featuring singles from Shakira, Missy Elliott, Idris Elba and more.

Plus, there’s a hilarious “DJ” ad. Watch below.

Your EDM Interview: Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes On Their Ever Growing Sound

Mon, 01/13/2020 - 12:03

The UK group Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes continue to move from strength to strength. They shared a killer album in 2019, which inspired a plethora of electronic remixes. We caught up with the guys to hear more about how the project developed and where they intend to progress in 2020.

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes have had huge success with your latest album End of Suffering. How has your music as a band developed over the past couple of years?

Over the past couple of years I think production has become something we think about a lot more. I think the line between writing, mixing and producing is blurring more and more – and so that’s had an impact on our music. Now it’s a case of asking how we want something to sound after we’ve written the lyrics and parts.

How did the idea of the remix releases come about?

We love dance and electronic music, so it’s been something we talked about since the start of the band. After End of Suffering was released we had a few friends around us that wanted to rework some songs, and it connected with some producers we loved also – so it felt like the time to make it happen.

There’s a huge variation of producers who have been brought on board from Youngr to The Bloody Beetroots, how did these collaborations come about?

All of them came together naturally, with Youngr I reached out to him as I’d been a fan of his bootlegs, Beetroots had wanted to do something with Frank for a while. We wanted variety, but it was also really fun to work with completely different people on music we had closed our minds to already.

As a complete listen, what did you want fans to take from it?

Just put it on, loud, ideally in headphones and escape.

Who or what are you currently really into, music-wise? And in what way did this impact the remix releases in terms of sound?

We’ve been off tour for a bit, but we just got heavy into Death Grips, Peggy Gou is on repeat a ton and all of us really loved that latest Chemical Brothers record. I just discovered Toro Y Moi and this duo called Jadu Heart too.

The impact of the sound was all on the producers, we wanted to give them total freedom to see what they would do.

2019 has been a huge year for Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, what’s coming up next?

We’ve got a tour of Australia next week before our biggest UK tour so far, ending in Ally Pally on Feb 15th. After that we get back into the studio to work on all sorts of new music we’re making.

REPORT: Glastonbury Must Reduce Noise Levels In 2020

Sun, 01/12/2020 - 18:21

Glastonbury must reduce its noise levels in 2020, according to a new report.

As one of the largest music festivals in the world, Glastonbury is always looking for ways to improve. A local council report recently revealed nine total ways in which the festival should do so for 2020– this includes late night noise levels.

Last year heard a total of 37 noise complaints, higher than in previous years. Thus, one of Glastonbury’s primary goals is to prevent “low frequency noise propagation” aka bass levels, especially after curfew.

Other areas for potential improvement (via NME):

alcohol, bars and taxi provision; camping capacity; crowd safety; food safety and hygiene; general health and safety; noise and nuisance; toilets and sanitation; security checks; and water supply

The council’s group manager for community health, Claire Malcolmson, said:

The Glastonbury Festival has a worldwide reputation – and as such it means that we have a huge responsibility in ensuring that it undertakes its statutory duties. The purpose of the license the licensing objectives and other legislation is to ensure event organizers provide a safe event whilst minimizing disruption and nuisance to the local community.

Glastonbury 2020 goes down June 24 – 28, 2020 featuring Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift and more.

Pasquale Rotella Teases Return Of Middlelands In 2021

Sat, 01/11/2020 - 21:56

Middlelands, for the one year that it was run, remains one of the best music festivals in the EDM circuit. From the lineup to the logistics to the setting, it was hard to find a single thing wrong with it. Unfortunately, some persnickety neighbors caused a racket and Insomniac was not invited back.

As one of Insomniac’s most storied events, especially given the fact it only happened once, fans have been begging Insomniac CEO and founder Pasquale Rotella for years to bring it back. He posted a couple videos on Instagram back in 2017 scouting locations for the festival the following year, but nothing ever came of it.

Now, in the comments on a new post on Instagram, Rotella says the words we’ve been waiting to hear: “very close, 2021 looking good.”

First and foremost, it’s good to know that Insomniac hasn’t forgotten this epic event and are still actively trying to find a new home for it. Secondly, a 2021 event isn’t so far off (literally next year) and if Pasquale himself is saying they’re very close, then we’re rolling with it!

Stay tuned for more information on Middlelands as it is officially announced. Until then, start practicing your LARPing.

Oliver Heldens Proves Once Again He’s “The G.O.A.T.” with New Mesto Collab [LISTEN]

Sat, 01/11/2020 - 18:30

Oliver Heldens is starting off 2020 right with a brand new single “G.O.A.T.”

The sound we know and love Heldens for is back in action, as he leads us into a new decade along with Mesto. “G.O.A.T.” rocks an upbeat, four on the floor groove matched with classic rave synths and a thick bassline. Chords strike at just the right moments, working in all the feels before dropping it again.

Last year brought a steady wave of new music from Heldens, including “Turn Me On” with Riton featuring Vula and “Lift Me Up” with Firebeatz and Schella featuring Carla Monroe. It seems there’s no slowing down for the producer and his Heldeep Records.

“Stream it, download it, or play it at your cousin’s Bar Mitzvah,” Oliver writes on Twitter.

WHIPPED CREAM Gives “Told Ya” with Lil Xan the Drum n Bass VIP Treatment [LISTEN]

Sat, 01/11/2020 - 18:27

The queen herself, WHIPPED CREAM just dropped a VIP on us — so brace yourselves!

Back in November, WHIPPED CREAM released her highly anticipated collaboration with superstar rapper Lil Xan, and now “Told Ya” is getting the VIP treatment.

A banger by nature, the original track’s distorted hip hop roots remain intact, while WHIPPED CREAM goes off with her fierce, untamed style, coloring outside the lines. Hyper drum patterns, rattling synths and eerie textures make this version of “Told Ya” highly thrilling, down to the last drop.

There’s a reason everyone in the music industry is paying attention to WHIPPED CREAM. In the tweet below, she promises this is only the beginning.

Currently making history and The best part is im underestimated by so many people still … just the start???? just wait ????

Instagram Spices Up Boomerang Feature with New Effects & Editing

Sat, 01/11/2020 - 18:25

Instagram is stepping up its Boomerang game with some brand new effects.

As TikTok, Snapchat, and other social media platforms compete for our attention with filters and meme-style content sharing, Instagram is putting its focus on the Boomerang.

Surprisingly, there hasn’t been an update to the feature since launching Boomerang on the platform five years ago — but that’s all changing now as Instagram strives to stay relevant.

Here are the short descriptions of each new effect:

SlowMo – Slows down your Boomerang to capture each detail.
Echo – Creates a double vision effect.
Duo – Both speeds up and slows down your Boomerang, adding a texturized effect.
Trimming – Edit the length of your Boomerang, and when it starts or ends.

See the new Boomerang effects at play in the demonstration video below.

Rob Swire Shares 30-Second WIP Clip — Could It Be New Pendulum?

Sat, 01/11/2020 - 17:14

It’s rare enough that we get any WIP (work in progress) clips from Rob Swire, frontman for Pendulum and half of Knife Party. It’s even rarer still that we hear one with his vocals, yet that’s exactly what he posted earlier this morning.

A new Pendulum album has been rumored for quite some time, and it was revealed there’s plenty of new material already “ready to go” since at least last February. The sound of the WIP Swire shared this morning fits way more in with a Pendulum single than a Knife Party one, so for the time being, we’re putting the cart before the horse and betting we might finally hear some new Pendulum music soon.

No one would be blamed for pumping the brakes and adding a healthy dose of skepticism to that theory, but with 2020 already getting a rocky start, what’s wrong with a little bit of harmless hope?

Either way, you can check out the 30-second WIP below.

Three Dead At Sunburn Festival Of Suspected Drug Overdoses After #BanSunburn Hashtag Goes Viral

Sat, 01/11/2020 - 15:40

The death of three Sunburn Goa attendees has heightened the concern about drugs at EDM festivals in India.

On Friday of the festival, two tourists from Andhra Pradesh became unwell outside the venue and collapsed. They were rushed to a hospital where they were declared dead, according to police.

On Sunday night, the festival’s final day, another tourist from Bengaluru became uneasy, was rushed to a hospital, and later died.

GFP vice president Durgadas Kamat made a suggestion following the deaths: “The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should take over the probe into the cause of deaths at the EDM festival and the sudden increase of drugs everywhere in the state.”

When Culture Minister Govind Gawade was asked about the criticism toward government for allowing the event, he said: “The government is not forcing the youth to go and attend the Sunburn festival. They go on their own. No one is forced to go there.”

Interestingly enough, some of the DJs playing the music festival spoke out on the apparent overdoses, too.

“Drugs are impure. I know it’s easy to say this but one must realize the value of self-discretion when it comes to the use of drugs, rather than blame it on the authorities. I discovered something as pure as music can help me come out of it much faster.” – DJ Luciano

“There’s a myth attached to EDM. Some people think EDM is all about drugs, but it actually depends on the person. I don’t take drugs and I don’t expect that my audience has to take drugs to listen to my music. We should value the art of EDM.” – DJ Mr Bose

The latest installment of Sunburn took place in Goa over December 27-29, 2019. A #BanSunburn hashtag was revived and began trending before this year’s festival in an attempt to highlight the rampant drug use the festival attracts each year.

Ekali Reveals Debut Album Release Date & It Is SOON

Sat, 01/11/2020 - 13:19

Ekali has been teasing his debut album for a while now and has even let it slip that it’s coming out January 2020 — but the exact date hasn’t been known until just recently. While promoting the “Hard To Say Goodbye” music video yesterday, the Canadian producer just casually dropped the release date, almost like an afterthought.

Hope ya'll are enjoying the Hard To Say Goodbye music video… ohhh and did I mention the full album is out 1/24? ????

— Ekali ???? (@EkaliMusic) January 10, 2020

We’ve already gotten a number of singles from the project, including “Hard To Say Goodbye” with Illenium and “Runaway” with Reo Cragun which started the whole album rollout all the way back in last July.

You can check out the new music video from Ekali below while we all wait for the album to drop in 13 days!

Jauz Drops New Single With TYNAN From Dangerous Waters EP, “Bring Em Back”

Sat, 01/11/2020 - 13:01

The Dangerous Waters EP from Jauz is due out next week, January 17, and we’ve just gotten another wild and crazy good track from the project, courtesy of a collaboration with TYNAN, “Bring Em Back.”

In this latest installment, we see Jauz go back to his classic bass house sound with a bit of an acid twist. Starting off with that always-recognizable synth that everyone knows from Kill Bill, which reemerges at various point in the track, an anthemic instrumental build leads us into the addictive drop.

2020 is shaping up to be a stand-out year for Jauz, beginning the New Year with a live virtual concert experience Dangerous Waters in partnership with Wave, where he debuted the first look at the Dangerous Waters EP, showed-off the new tour production for his headlining tour including stand-out piece ‘The Fin’, and took gamers into an once-in-a-lifetime underwater virtual experience filled with unique sea creatures, shark attacks, and more! Gearing up to reveal the full Dangerous Waters EP on January 17th and kicking-off the 39-date US tour on January 18th, Jauz will be bringing many more surprises into the new year and tickets for the tour are still available for purchase here.
