After the release of “Reset” in November 2018 and the subsequent announcement of his forthcoming album Hyperion, Gesaffelstein has been keeping fans wondering, “What’s next?” Well, after a proper high placement on the Coachella lineup that dropped last week, he’s back with a teaser for a new song with The Weeknd, “Lost In Fire.”
The teaser is painfully short, only giving away 12 seconds of a melancholic synth chord; but, as with anything Gesaffelstein attaches his name to, the hype is palpable. With the release of the teaser, we can expect the full track to drop at least by this Friday, if not in the next day or two.
Listen to the teaser for “Lost In Fire” below.

The landscape of music is constantly shifting. Midtempo, which experienced such a fast rise in 2018, is already beginning to expose new producers and interesting ways of pushing the sound. Riddim, which experienced a scarily fast rise in 2017 akin to midtempo last year, is also undergoing such a change. There are only so many iterations of that sound you can make before fans start to become disinterested.
Thankfully, producers are masters of their craft and have a necessity to innovate. In that spirit, we’re happy to premiere KRIMER’s “Crown,” out now on Never Say Die. The typical riddim sound is immediately identifiable, but there are heaps of small idiosyncrasies that keep it interesting. From the manic LFOs to the rising warning siren just barely audible in the background, it’s formulated to keep your attention – and it succeeds. The little melodic bridges also help to break up the heavy bass.
All in all, I’m excited for the future of riddim and other bass sounds in 2019. If “Crown” by KRIMER is any indication, we have a lot to look forward to. Listen below and grab it here if you dig.
Ekali is making progress on his new studio space in Vancouver, dedicated to mentoring young musicians and providing a studio space for them to express themselves. The new place is already taking shape.

Alison Wonderland and Dillon Francis are chipping away on their new song together and it’s sounding amazing!
Fans at Contact Winter Music Festival in Vancouver were treated to the new collaboration over NYE and the video below has been circulating ever since. The epic blend of both artists matched with the insane visuals accompanying the music made for quite a special moment.
Skrillex, The Chainsmokers, NGHTMRE, Borgore and more played the music festival, which also hosted Alison Wonderland. During her set, she took the opportunity to play out the highly anticipated collab from two of the biggest DJ/producers in the game.
EDC Orlando was the first to be treated to Dillion and Alison’s track together. That was back in November, and the crowds are still going crazy for the unreleased production.
Listen again below and keep your fingers crossed this gets an official release soon!Alison Wonderland x Dillion Francis

Zedd just topped off his massive year in the most creative and playful way possible. An art installation by Dante Dentoni composed almost entirely of LEGOs makes the perfect addition to the producer’s home — just look.
“Soooo in love with this amazing new art installation at my house by @dantedentoniart!!!!” Zedd shares in a recent post. “He replaced a wall of mine with LEGOs and built in a bunch of hidden rooms, including Omnia, an overwatch room (hanamura pt. 2), an alien abduction and more…”
There’s even a mini version of Zedd’s house hidden inside this LEGO masterpiece.
The photos and footage have been making rounds on the internet for obvious reasons — the work is simply amazing and brings out the kid in everyone. Now, whenever Zedd goes to adjust his thermostat he’ll be subject to a world of imagination.

After much anticipation, deadmau5 is about to make his theatrical debut. The trailer for Polar finally drops tomorrow and the film releases later this month.
The Netflix feature is directed by renowned Swedish director and drummer Jonas Åkerlun. It’s a concept based upon the Dark Horse action noir graphic novel Polar: Came From the Cold by Victor Santos. The cast includes Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Hudgens, and Johnny Knoxville, among others.
Note: Not to be confused with the upcoming Mads Mikkelsen film ‘Arctic.’
“When a retiring assassin realizes he’s the target of a hit,” the Netflix synopsis reads, “he winds up back in the game going head to head with an army of younger, ruthless killers.”
The story line, which thrives on live action, mystery and intrigue, will be set to a custom body of specially crafted musical productions from deadmau5. Tomorrow we may have the first listen, so be sure to check back.
Polar is set to premiere on Netflix on January 25, 2019. More details here.Polar: Coming to Netflix January 2019 View this post on Instagram

It’s been a long, long time coming, but Seven Lions, Wooli, and Trivecta’s “Island” with Nevve is finally out. This is one of those tracks that fans have been pining after for months — but does it stand up to the hype? Yes, yes it does.
The mix of each producer’s input is brilliantly distinct, with Seven Lions’ own blend of dubstep and melodic, Wooli’s filth, and Trivecta’s blend of the two. The beautifully melodic first and third drops are more than worth the wait alone, as they embody Seven Lions’ and Trivecta’s styles the most directly.
The second, more dubstep drop of the bunch is personally my least favorite of the bunch. The entirely atonal drop, devoid of any melody, when it’s surrounded by such a surplus, mostly just takes me out of the immersion. Though, having heard “Island” live, I can still confirm it is incredible surrounded by a group of people going absolutely wild. It’s a small criticism, and a personal one at that, but still something.

Coachella dropped it’s 2019 lineup this week with headliners Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, and Ariana Grande. Plus, plenty of electronic surprises — most notably, Gesaffelstein and Aphex Twin.
However, the internet has its own ideas of a Coachella lineup. As always, the fake posters have circulated and the people have spoken. The true “fake” headliners include the queen Ariana Grande (because even if it’s a fake lineup, she’s still headlining), Spice Girls, Guy Fieri, and 2Pac’s Hologram.
If some of these sound familiar, it’s because Twitter seems to be circulating fake lineups from years past. One of the most recent, newly updated fake Coachella lineups appears to be the one in which XXXtenaction summons himself as satan, Ryan Reynolds stars as Pikachu, and 6ix9ine performs live from jail. Hey, at least it’s original.
Other highlights include Sandra Bullock in a Blindfold, Robyn (we wish), and did we mention Guy Fieri?

Coachella‘s weekend 1 sold out in just 40 minutes. That’s faster than you can plan your outfit for the perfect desert valley selfie.
Six hours later, weekend 2 sold out, completing sales for all 2019 passes. In 2017 and 2018, tickets sold out after just three hours. Though it took a little longer this year, Coachella has still proven itself as a highly in-demand music festival yet again.
Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, and Ariana Grande are set to headline Coachella, which celebrates its 20th year in 2019. Electronic acts include Gesaffelstein, DJ Snake, Zedd, Kayzo, Jon Hopkins, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Kaytranada and more. Most notably, there’s also a rare set from Aphex Twin.
As for Coachella passes… Well, if you don’t have them already — good luck. These are a hot ticket this year and every year.

2019 is starting with new goals, new outlooks, and new energy. Lots of artists are setting new resolutions for themselves and taking their time; others are hitting the ground running. Lost Kings find themselves firmly in the latter category, as they’ve just released their new EP Paper Crowns via Disruptor Records.
The EP features three previously released singles, plus a new song “Don’t Kill My High” with Wiz Khalifa and Social House. That single was featured today on Times Square’s Spotify billboard for all to see, proving just how much they’ve put into the track — and it shows. It’s definitely a bop.
Additionally, the EP will add two brand new tracks in the coming weeks. Next Friday, January 11, the guys will release “Anti-Everything” featuring the massively successful musical.ly star Loren Gray; and on January 18th, they will release “F**k U 4 Everything” ft. English singer/songwriter Lauren Aquilina.

Though the Coachella lineup was dropped two days ago, people are still poring over all the names in an effort to find new favorites or potential must-sees they might have overlooked. One name that caught would-be attendees attention was ‘Gucci Gang‘ on Sunday. Apart from being the title of a hit Lil Pump song, there’s no artist actually named Gucci Gang. So what gives?
The obvious and first guess was that this was a typo of Gucci Mane. Clicking on the name Gucci Gang on the Coachella website conjured up a picture of the Atlanta rapper, so it seemed case closed. But he was second line in 2017. To drop so far, even though he hadn’t done enough realistically to stay second line, was drastic. People weren’t satisfied.
As it turns out, it was an error — but it wasn’t a typo. The landing page for Gucci Mane was still missing two more artists: Lil Pump and Smokepurpp. Turns out, Gucci Gang is a new collaborative venture for the three artists.
Neither Gucci Mane nor Lil Pump have made any mention of the billing on social media, but Smokepurpp has been pushing it hard, so it’s all but confirmed.
Check out the full lineup here! Tickets went on sale this morning and will likely be sold out by the end of the day, if they aren’t already.

Berlin gets cold in the winter. A 14-day forecast from today reveals temperatures ranging from 27 degrees Fahrenheit during the night to a high of 45 degrees during the day. For many people, they can afford to bundle up or work in heated buildings and drive in heated vehicles. For Berlin’s homeless population, the weather can be deadly.
Thankfully, the city’s nightclubs are standing up and doing something about it. Two clubs in the Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain (the second borough of Berlin), Astra Kulturhaus and Bi Nuu, will take days out of they regular show schedule to open their doors to the homeless, offering a warm place to sleep for the night. No mention of food was made in the reports. No exact statistics exist on the number of homeless in the city, but estimates suggest the number is around 10,000.
Sara Luhmann, a spokesperson for the district where the two nightclubs are located, told Der Tagesspiegel, a German daily newspaper: “It’s great when nightclubs make such offers and take on social responsibility. We are happy about every additional offer to further expand the number of cold weather places.”

Today is a big day for Avicii and Nicky Romero’s throwback hit “I Could Be The One.” The massive song has racked up over 200 million streams on Spotify and counting.
Back in 2012, no one could have anticipated what these superstar producers would accomplish, or the legacy Avicii would leave behind years later. Now, we’re left with this timeless track.
“2 kids on the block, no managers involved,” Nicky writes in the post below. The photo is worth a thousand words, featuring the two young DJ/producers conversing backstage at a music festival.
“This song would have never been this big without you,” he continues. “Wish you were here to celebrate.”

Insomniac Events is the biggest promoter of electronic dance music in the entire United States. Based out of Los Angeles, CA, a lot of their events stay close to home, but they’ve expanded over the years to events in Michigan (Electric Forest), Florida (EDC Orlando and Holy Ship!), and Texas (hopefully, if Middlelands ever comes back). With so many events to keep track of and look forward to, something like a calendar is necessary. Thankfully, Insomniac has our back.
These calendars (below) were handed out at Countdown NYE this year and reveal every Insomniac festival coming in 2019! We can see Holy Ship! sailing in January, EDC Las Vegas in bold yellow in May, and HARD Summer on August 3-4. It also appears that HARD Day of the Dead is returning to two days in 2019, and Insomniac isn’t making the mistake of putting Escape and DOTD on back-to-back weekends a second time.
Nocturnal is coming back in September, and Beyond is returning in March, with the new addition of Beyond Wonderland Monterrey in Mexico on April 6.

Everyone is excited for Coachella after the festival dropped its massive 2019 lineup two days ago. Plus, tickets went on sale today. But, festival organizers have just announced something very exciting: every one.
every one is a new initiative aiming to fight sexual, verbal and physical assault and harassment at Coachella. The every one announcement says it wants to create a safe festival culture for everyone. That means a safer festival for all races, genders, sexual orientations and religions. every one will employ trained ‘Safety Ambassadors’ to help anyone in need, including punishing offenders. Any offenders will be removed from the festival, in addition to possibly facing law enforcement and having their wristband cut.
every one seems like a direct response to last year’s Vogue report about rampant harassment at Coachella, not to mention the #metoo movement. While it appears the Vogue report exaggerated the extent of harassment, Coachella seems to be taking things seriously, even including gender neutral bathrooms and designated safe spaces.
Head over to the Coachella website to read more about every one. Stay safe, and see you at Coachella!

Technics has revealed the next generation of its signature SL-1200 turntable.
In a series of cryptic posts the company has revealed imagery of what appears to be the MK7. Darkened visual representations of the new model leave much to the imagination. However, according to Technics, the new equipment is soon to be revealed on January 7th. The wait is almost over.
Technics’ turntables have pretty much been reserved for those with expensive taste, ranging from £1,200 to £2,700 per unit. While some speculate this could finally be a more affordable alternative, no one seems to be holding their breath.

A new report from BuzzAngle Music spells a promising, but changing, landscape for the future of the music industry. Examining industry trends and highlights throughout 2018, BuzzAngle attempts to create an accurate road map for the following year.
Overall, music consumption has grown by double digit percentages in 2018. According to the report, total consumption grew 16.2% over 2017, which already showed a 12.8% increase over 2016. More people are listening to more music than ever before. (The number of unique titles audio-streamed in 2018 totaled 3M more than in 2017, a 9.2% increase.) Including both audio and video sources, total streams were over 809 Billion for 2018. With a ‘B.’
No doubt part of this is due to the massive rise in Asian pop groups like BLACKPINK, Baby Metal, and BTS going absolutely viral, but American and European artists like Drake and Ed Sheeran are doing their fair share, as well.
However, the rise in streaming is also indicative of the death of sales.
“Album sales and song sales continued to decline, 18.2% and 28.8% respectively,” states the report, “and physical sales declined 15.3%.” Though vinyl sales continued to grow, with an increase of 11.9% over 2016, the total number of sales (8.6M) is still a far cry from CD sales even in their declining state (74.5M).
Regarding music exploration, the future is bright. There were only nine songs that were streamed more than 500 million times in 2018, compared to 16 in 2017, six in 2016 and two in 2015. However, there were 417 songs that streamed more than 100 million times in 2018, compared to 383 songs in 2017, 226 songs in 2016 and 111 songs in 2015. This shows that while consumers still appreciate the hits, they’re also broadening their taste and expanding into new territories. You can thank features like Spotify’s Discovery playlists for a lot of this.
Still, for the second straight year, Drake took the three largest awards: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Scorpion, and Song of the Year, “God’s Plan.”
You can read the full report available here.
