While on tour in South Africa for Ultra this past weekend, The Chainsmokers and their team took a bit of a detour south toward the Cape Peninsula to play with penguins at The Boulders. As it turns out, the penguins are super friendly — and in this case, nearly motionless.
During their time with the penguins, Chainsmokers & company decided to take advantage of the stillness of the birds and bring back the Mannequin Challenge, which peacefully died at home in its sleep in 2016. Apart from one or two birds, it’s actually incredible just how still these penguins were.
We certainly don’t expect the challenge to make a full recovery, but The Chainsmokers make a fair argument for — maybe — a once a year revival.
Check out their new challenge below.View this post on Instagram

As much as I’d prefer every piece of music to have some emotional connection to it or special meaning, a lot of the times in dance music, you just need a straight up banger. “RAVE” by Sikdope is that track.
There’s no personal backstory to this apart from the fact that Sikdope is “super into rave sounds and culture from the ’90s lately,” and that’s just how I like it. It’s a no frills heater that blends hard house and psytrance with a simple lead synth and kooky vocal sample, but damn if it doesn’t get you moving!
I’ve been testing it out for the past weeks on the festivals worldwide and the response from the crowd has been astonishing! The whole structure of “RAVE” is a mixture of “old meets new” with fresh basslines and old school synths and vocals. – Sikdope

News of an RL Grime and Whethan collaboration made its rounds in January earlier this year, around the time that Grime revealed his new label Sable and dropped his track with graves, “Arcus.”
With a bit of time having passed since then, fans at EDC Mexico were able to bear witness to Whethan dropping the new tune in all its glory and… wow. This ID is anthemic as all get out, with stadium-sized synths and crisp 808 drums, this sounds like the perfect combination of both artists’ styles.
The clip below is only 37 seconds and just one drop, so we can safely assume that the full thing will feature a switch up or two and maybe even more Whethan influence on the other section. Check it out below.
And we have more to look forward to, as RL just announced he’s headed into the studio with Alison Wonderland tomorrow.

Tiësto‘s music will make you work up a sweat! Quite literally.
The superstar DJ/producer provides a brand new, exclusive home workout soundtrack in collaboration with 305 Fitness — made specifically to whip fans into shape. His high-intensity 30-minute set comes as part of 305 Fitness studio’s “305 at Home” series.
The energy of the aerobic workout is on point, thanks to this dance music legend. “305 Fitness gave me special instructions for the breaks and the tempo,” Tiësto explains. So the flow, down to every move, fits the soundtrack.
Tiësto became an investor in 305 Fitness in November 2018, which he described at the time as “the perfect fit for my portfolio, allowing me to have authentic involvement.” This new mix is a natural next step in Tiësto’s partnership with the program.
The best part? It’s completely free. Though the 305 vibe is more like a club atmosphere, the workout video can be accessed from the comfort of your own home. Make sure you have plenty of room to dance!305 Fitness x Tiësto Full Body Workout

Deaths in the U.S. from alcohol, drugs and suicide have hit an all-time high.
A new study gathers that there are more recent American deaths related to drugs, alcohol abuse and suicides than during any other point over the last two decades. In 2017, the number of reported deaths under these circumstances hit the highest level since record-keeping began in 1999.
National death rates from drugs, alcohol and suicide rose by 6 percent in 2019. That’s 43.9 to 46.6 deaths per every 100,000 people. It was a slower increase than the previous two years, but over the average 4 percent increase reported since 1999. These are number calculated by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Deaths from suicides alone saw 4 percent increase, with 13.9 to 14.5 deaths per every 100,000 people. Meanwhile, deaths from synthetic opioids including fentanyl rose 45 percent and overall increased tenfold over the past five years.
Recently, music lost a legend — Keith Flint of The Prodigy took his own life. Last year, Avicii passed away tragically in an apparent suicide. These are just two people. Now, more than ever, it’s important we as a society value mental health and awareness.

The incognito artist known as 13 started making a name for himself in the music scene after the release of his debut single “Eradicate” in 2017. Since then he has spent countless hours in the studio working with analog synthesizers to create a recognizable sound of his very own, garnering support from deadmau5’ label mau5trap and the powerhouse producer Rezz. After his collaboration with Rezz, “DRUGS!”, came out on her sophomore album last year, his popularity only continued to grow.
Now, after two singles already out in 2019, he’s ready to release his new EP on mau5trap, Revelation, with its first single, “Oath.”
“Oath” is characterized by a looping vocal chant and incredibly heavily textured bass synths that fall right into the midtempo realm. The atonal bass is punctuated by brief moments of melody and rhythm, enough to just keep you from losing your mind if you heard this live.
13’s new single “Oath” is out today, followed by the full-length EP on March 19. Check it out below.

Despite having never worked together directly before, Alison Wonderland and RL Grime are often still found uttered in the same sentence. Fans have been begging for an original collaboration between the two for some time, and it seems that it’s finally time.
Both artists took to Twitter to announce they were headed into the studio, and we’re officially freaking out.
RL Grime just launched his own label, Sable Valley, and dropped his first single of 2019, “Arcus” with graves. With another collaboration due out with Whethan, and this new one with Alison, we’re very excited about this year.
Alison just wrapped up a co-headlining tour with Dillon Francis in support of their collaboration “Lost My Mind.”

The surest and quickest way to have me fall in love with a track is with a little brass. If the opening note of the song is a wonderful trumpet, even better. “Stranded” from Crystal Knives ticks a lot of boxes for me, best of all it’s a beautiful and catchy song.
“Stranded,” featuring Ivish and Nathan Kay, and is a smooth and sultry journey that’s like a ride at the park for all ages. It’s each to enjoy and you come out of it smiling and wanting to ride again.
“I like to put myself in weird, unfamiliar situations when it comes to songwriting. I loved the idea of putting myself, Ivish and Nathan together for a session because we all come from three very different worlds: Dance music, urban music and contemporary jazz. We went into the session with no idea what was going to happen and had the entire song written less than six hours later, the energy in the room was electric and I really think that vibe shines through on the finished record.” – Crystal Knives
I love this sort of music coming out now from artists like Louis Futon and Brasstracks, and Crystal Knives has clearly managed to tap into that sound and do it like the best of them. Check out “Stranded” below
Porter Robinson made waves yesterday with the announcement of his first and only curated music festival, Multiverse.
As a “curated” festival, hardcore fans already had a pretty good idea of the types of artists Porter would be inviting to perform. Now, we’re getting the first artist confirmation and it’s Kero Kero Bonito. To our knowledge, Porter and KKB have never played together — at least in the US. But Porter consistently speaks about them on Twitter and other social media platforms, praising their work.
With the first artist announcement here, we have to wonder if we’ll be getting one a day, or perhaps even more today? It’s been an hour (at time of publishing) since Kero Kero Bonito was announced, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
For now, you can still sign up for the pre-sale at multiversefest.com.

Anna Lunoe just hit us with the “303” — a rave-worthy club anthem centered entirely around the iconic bass synthesizer.
Acid house and bounce collide for an intoxicating mixture, as Anna throws it back to the basics. A driving bassline, clean, punctuated rhythm and catchy lyrics (with a nod to Eminem’s “Without Me”) make this song a knockout. It’s the perfect party starter and always stays bumping.
This kind of genius has us wondering how the hell she thought it up, but for Anna, “303” just kind of happened. She shares her thoughts along with the release:
“Making music is weird, sometimes it feels really impossible and other days it happens so easily. This song is really exciting for me because it was one of the quickest songs I’ve ever made, and has re-inspired me to focus on super playable, simple, ravable, rowdy weird club music. It reminded me how fun making club bangers can be and I hope it makes you feel all those things.”
The DJ/producer keeps busy with her HyperHouse show and Apple Music’s Beats 1 Dance Chart show. Thankfully, she still has time to deliver some much needed bass. Enjoy!Anna Lunoe – 303

You probably haven’t heard of LEFTI, but you’ve definitely heard his music. LEFTI (Alex Suarez) was previously part of Cobra Starship, the band who brought the world the viral hit “Good Girls Go Bad” in 2009. He was with the group from the beginning to its disbandment in 2015, and now he’s embarking out on his own on a new project.
LEFTI continues to push Suarez’s talents as a bass player, adding a hefty amount of funk and brass to the mix on his new EP, DISCOTECHA. This release finds LEFTI furthering his artful fusion of live and electronic production touching on disco and house music. It serves as the follow-up to his debut EP, Somebody, and a series of remixes.
LEFTI says of the release, “The name ‘DISCOTECA’ is inspired by my childhood memories from spending our summers in Spain, where my family is from. My folks and their friends used to hit the discotecas regularly and I used to see tons of show posters for them which were so cool to me. As always, my music is a blend of live instrumentation rooted from disco, house and funky flavors, like paella!”
The EP comes out on toucan sounds, an independent record label for indie disco and house music curated by French Horn Rebellion. LEFTI will be playing at the April 4th label launch party at Freehold with DJ sets from Crush Club, Jpatt (of The Knocks), and French Horn Rebellion.
Check out the EP below, and get it here.
There are almost too many incredible bass producers coming out of Europe to keep track of, but far and away, Gentlemens Club and SampliFire make up four of the top ones. These UK gentlemen and French connoisseur have finally teamed up for “Pump It Up,” out now via Bassrush.
“Pump It Up” plays itself off as a pretty subdued tune at first, leading things in with a low-volume vocal sample and lead synth before switching gears. It’s not long before you get the suspense of an impending heavy drop, and the actual drop itself is sure not to disappoint.
Gentlemens Club: “We’ve been inspired by early rave music for as long as we can remember. Combined with our current style and Samplifire’s high energy bass, we created Pump It Up.”
SampliFire: “We wanted to create a high energy club breaker, taking inspirations from the 90’s for introduction leading to a modern bass music design in the drop. On a personal note it was such a goal to work with these guys!”
There’s a lot of old school rave vibes, including the synth breaks and drums, that go into making this a throwback and modern classic all in one. And be sure to listen until the very end for an unexpected surprise. Check out “Pump It Up” from Gentlemens Club & SampliFire below.

After announcing his collaboration with CHVRCHES last Friday, Marshmello has finally given fans their first listen to the record, called “Here With Me.”
Out this Friday, “Here With Me” seems to go more the way of “Wolves” or “Happier,” as opposed to his own Joytime material. This dichotomy has always existed in de facto fashion, but it’s definitely becoming more clear cut with each new pop collaboration that Marshmello puts out.
That being said, the 19-second preview that we get is far too little to get any real idea of what the song will sound like. The verse shared is probably from the very beginning or end of the song, and is only CHVCHES with some acoustic guitar.
Fans will be able to hear “Here With Me” in full this Friday.

The newest single release on Quality Goods Records is from Oski. The highly esteemed Australian producer shares the quite simply magical ‘In Check’ with his fanbase this week, as it joins his previous EPs and singles for the label.
Oski’s forward-thinking energy and dynamic as an artist is immediately visible. He hits a sweet spot between big, bold drum patterns and electrifying melodies – contrasted quickly by his more stripped back, trap-led trademark.
Speaking on it, he said: “I took some time off touring to really reassess my music and what I wanted from it. This is the product of my decision to start writing more heavy-hitting records using more aggressive sounds. 2019 is looking great.”
The biggest new club in Las Vegas is KAOS Dayclub and Nightclub, at the historic Palms Casino Resort. The club will debut the first weekend in April with performances from Marshmello, Travis Scott, Cardi B, Alicia Keys, J Balvin, Skrillex, and G-Eazy, with more artists set to perform throughout the year.
According to a new report from Variety, Marshmello has signed an exclusive two-year contract with the Las Vegas club to the tune of $60 million. With a guaranteed $30 million per year (gross) from the residency, as well as streaming, touring, sync, and merchandise, this will surely make Marshmello the new richest DJ in the world.
In their highest-paid DJs of 2018 article, Forbes revealed Marshmello made approximately $23 million. This residency alone is worth more than everything he made in that twelve month period (June 1, 2017 through June 1, 2018), which is astounding. The highest-paid DJ at the time, Calvin Harris, doesn’t tour. Instead, he makes most of his money from streaming and residencies in Las Vegas.
Moe Shalizi, founder and CEO of The Shalizi Group, who manages Marshmello, said: “The Palms has always been one of the most iconic hotels, so it’s very exciting to announce that this will be our new home in Las Vegas. To be part of this legacy’s newest chapter is an honor. Not many other dayclubs and nightclubs in the world can compare to the amount of detail, quality and craftsmanship that have went into KAOS.”

Huge spoiler ahead — Tomorrowland Winter‘s Main Stage has just been revealed.
Not too long ago, Tomorrowland Winter released a sketch and full-color rendering of what the music festival’s Main Stage was supposed to look like when finished (see here). Now, we’re blown away by how on point the blueprints were, as the epic stage comes to life right before our very eyes.
Decorated with stone and icy blue, snow covered imagery, the Main Stage looks like a castle that’s been frozen in time. It’s the centerpiece of this year’s theme — The Hymn of the Frozen Lotus.
Tomorrowland Winter is just around the corner, with the festivities beginning this weekend and running March 9th through 16th in Alpe d’Huez, France. Soon enough, this stage will be lit up in spectacular fashion as a host for some of the most amazing artists in dance music.
